Adachiara Zevi was born in Rome.

After completing her classical studies at the high school level she earned a Degree in Architecture from the “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 1976. She holds a post-graduate degree in Contemporary Art History from the Department of Art History at the University of Bologna, with a thesis on Le Corbusier pittore e scultore.

She furthered her art history education attending the International University of Art in Florence, directed by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti, earning her Diploma with an investigation of the computer in the reading of works of art.

She was a Fulbright Scholar from 1987 to 1988 at Columbia University in New York.

Since 1976 she teaches Art History with the Fine Arts Academies of Macerata, Florence, Bologna, Milan, Palermo and Naples. Her academic activities have consistently been accompanied by a historical and critical commitment to the arts with an uninterrupted attention toward such Italian and international artists as Enrico Castellani, Jannis Kounellis, Dan Graham and Sol LeWitt, for whom she has curated exhibitions, catalogues and monographs.

From 1989 to 2005 a particular focus on the relationship between art and architecture inspired “Spazi/Arte”, a column dedicated to the visual arts in the monthly journal L’architettura – cronache e storia (RCS Milan).

In 2000 she published Arte USA del Novecento (American Art of the Twentieth Century) (Carocci Editore, Rome). Beginning with the peculiarity of the urban landscape, the book tracks the development of the “American Century” researching and retracing the true identity of American art.

Since 2002 she is the curator of the international Biennale Arteinmemoria presented in the ruins of the 1st century AD Synagogue in Ostia Antica, Rome, now in its ninth edition (2017).

In 2006 she published Peripezie del dopoguerra nell’arte italiana (Einaudi, Turin); moving along a precise line of criticism, the book retraces and interprets the complex history of Italian art from the Second World War to the present.

Since 1987 she is a regular collaborator with the Corriere della Sera daily newspaper, and since 2012 with Pagine Ebraiche.

From 2000 to 2006 she was editor of the Arte series, part of the Universale di architettura collection published by testo&immagine, Turin.

President of the Fondazione Bruno Zevi since 2002, she organizes conferences, exhibitions and publications, in addition to curating the annual award presented to doctorate students who excel in writing critical-historical essays on architecture.

In 2010, in occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, she initiated the project Memorie d’inciampo a Roma, the first placement of 30 ‘tripping stones’ by Gunter Demnig in front of the homes of racial, political and military deportees in Italy. With the eleven successive editions (2011-2021) the total number of ‘stones’ has reached 500.

In 2011 she was nominated scientific consultant to the Museo nazionale dell’Ebraismo Italiano e della Shoah (MEIS) in Ferrara.

She is the founder (2012) and president of the “Associazione arteinmemoria”. The same year she curated the exhibition of work by Gaetano Pesce Omaggio a Bruno Zevi anticlassico at the Galleria Nazionale d’arte moderna e contemporanea in Rome, and the exhibition Sol LeWitt: l’artista e i suoi artisti at the MADRE Museum in Naples, publishing L’Italia nei wall drawings di Sol Lewitt (Electa, Milan), the catalogue raisonné of the LeWitt’s wall drawings in Italy.

In occasion of the 70th anniversary of the massacre of the Fosse Ardeatine on 24 March 1944, she published Monumenti per difetto (Donzelli, Rome).

In 2017 she was nominated Advisor at the American Academy in Rome and in 2018 she received the honour “Cavalierato dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Federale di Germania”. She is a member of the CDEC (Center for Contemporary Jewish Documentation) scientific committee.

Since 2019 she’s a member of the scientific committee of the magazine “Critica d’Arte”, Fondazione Ragghianti, Lucca.
